Maundy Thursday
As you have seen in my previous posts, I do not know much about many other Christian denominations. However today I feel like highlighting the very important trait that Catholicism has that I feel that other Christian denominations cannot emulate to such an extent that Catholicism does.
Note that I'm not degrading any other religion or christian denomination. Rather I am trying to emphasize a particular trait that Catholicism excels at, and you will be sure that I will point out many other things that other christian denominations can do that Catholicism fails to emulate.
Today is known as Maundy Thursday (not to be confused with Monday Thursday, or Laundry Thursday), and it is known as the day where key events took place before Jesus was sentenced to death, such as the last supper (which was beautifully captured in Da Vinci's Work) and the prayer atop a hill where he prayed throughout the night in isolation.

Catholics believe that time is not relevant in the eyes of God and that when we reinact the things that Jesus did, we are there with him. As weird as that may sound, there are times when I feel that I am back at the moment with him sharing a meal with him in the last supper; something that we Catholics do every Sunday when we receive the "Sacrament of the Eucharist".
Tonight was the night that we join the disciples when Jesus was on top of the hill praying. We remember that his time of death is near (note how we say that is death is approaching, rather than has happened). Ironically according to the Bible, these people were found fast asleep, and I fear that I may be joining them in another hour or so.
Nevertheless the Catholic church is somehow able to bring the atmosphere up, up to the point that every body at church feels a sense of apprehension and stays in church when usually these people would be dying to leave, especially at such a late time.
It is this that I feel the Catholic church does the best. Even now people are going Church-hopping, this is a time used to see how other Catholic churches hold such an event where we wait for Jesus to be captured, known as the Adoration of the Lord.
Of all things the Catholic Church does this best, and I feel rather proud of being part of its community, besides it being one of the most tense events on the Liturgical Calender.
So what about you readers? What is your favourite aspect of your religion? Share them in the comments or email me!
Cheers,
Matthew Tan
