Murder and Mystery

Whenever I am free I would watch the TV show "Elementary". Before that I used to watch "Sherlock", all of which are variations of the great fictional character Sherlock Holmes in two different interpretations, one American and one English accordingly. As my interest in physics waivers, I find my interest in criminology, mystery and deduction blossoming. In my own time I tend to use logic and deduction to determine the places of my brothers and other loved ones before our meeting, but of course this being reality I never truly verify by deductions. Needless to say I will be picking up more books about deduction and criminology, although I highly suspect deductions in reality will require a great deal of general knowledge, particularly of the world around you; something that both Sherlocks have in their respective TV shows but never truly found in reality.

Having played a lot of games involving murder and mystery, I suppose it would be interesting to write a book on one as well. The idea spawned in my head a few days ago, and the rough draft is working itself out, whether I think about it subconsciously or consciously. I would like to start the first mystery with a 'Locked Room Mystery', in which an event - almost always a murder - takes place in a locked room. The victim was seemingly the only person inside, and as such the murder had no way of entering nor leaving the room. The murder itself would be quite elaborate, and I wish to sort out the details as I further plan the book. I doubt I will finish it, but it will be interesting to try at the very least.

With all my TV watching however, I tend to slow down on the reading, especially since the books I am reading fail to interest me or are superfluously esoteric considering that both were translated to English. However in my time I will continue to read them.... as soon as I'm done with Elementary.

Cheers,
Matthew Tan
