3 weeks to the end of my internship!
Today when I went to work, this is what I had in my mind.
Don't get me wrong, I love the work that they do here and I see a lot of potential, but the more I come here the more desirable it is for me just to cozy up on the couch reading a good book. At the moment I am reading Sapiens: A brief history of mankind, which is probably the most enriching book I have ever read in my life. With such a fun and easy read, there was no reason as to why I would rather do that than anything else in the world. Also, the holidays were meant as a time for me to recollect, meet friends and do a little more writing on this blog and for myself and so far I have not done anything of the sort. Although some may say that I am having a productive holiday, many of you know already that I don't see productivity in the same way as everyone else.
Over my period here I have taken a keen interest in product management, and it seems interesting enough for me to want to pursue that as a career option in the future. However when I look at job availabilities online I always see that companies want "minimally 2 years of experience" before working, which brings up every "work experience" meme I see.
So in the short term, as they are pleased with my work here and I fit into the culture quite well, it is a possibility that I may come here to work in the future, at least until I have the relevant work experience to be able to join bigger, better paying jobs. This company is still a start up after all. I doubt I can make the money that I want in the future by working here, or at least attain it as quickly as in the corporate world. Of course, this is 3 to 4 years down the line after graduation, but it is nice to keep this in the backlog of possible outcomes for my future. It is more fun to see it as a possibility in the near future.
After my internship term I have 10 days before school starts. I took a bit of consolation that I did not plan many lessons this semester and I can take the school term a little bit slower, although we both know that somehow I managed to get stuck with a lot of work towards the end of the school semester. At least for the first few weeks, I'm going to take the vacation I could never have during my vacation. It's time to catch up on some old movies and YouTube videos I did not have the opportunity to go through.
Cheers,
Matthew Tan
