Best Book of 2020 #2: Ethical Guidebook to the Zombie Apocalypse by Bryan Hall

An Ethical Guidebook to the Zombie Apocalypse: How to Keep Your ...

The Ethical Guidebook to the Zombie Apocalypse by Bryan Hall has been the most eye-opening book of my 2020.

Hall describes a dystopia, a world where one finds no reason to live (which can be very much related to our current world now, to be honest), and uses zombie scenarios to prove to you that despite all the negative things that happen in your life, it is worth living and fighting for your life.

In addition to this, Hall argues in terms of other people and when it is right for you to sacrifice your life (never!) or allow people to sacrifice the lives of others (never!) while teaching you to understand why someone may act in a certain way given a scenario of a sudden moral crisis.

By reading this book, I have managed to learn a lot about ethics philosophical schools of thought and when to apply them. There has been a lot of real applications for this that have allowed me to properly break down the issue based on the structure laid out in the book.

That being said, this book is not an easy read. You have to often read old chapters to be acquainted with the mention of the concept again. It may be best to have a notebook to write down all the information, although there is a glossary at the back that works well to refresh your memory. DO NOT SPEEDREAD THIS BOOK.

Other than that, 10/10.

Cheers,
Matthew Tan
