Covid-19 in Singapore

Hi readers,

Hope that everything has been going okay for you. I hope that your life now revolves around work, mainly video games and lots of book reading instead of you worrying about your income.

Most of my exploring on social media has shown the former for most of the world, and the latter for the US. I hope that my American readers have not been affected, because I know that there are a few.

Life in Singapore has suddenly come to a standstill. With a lot more stores being ordered to close down by the government and with the police starting to conduct more regular checks to ensure that you are out only for valid reasons, Singapore has almost become on lockdown just like every other part of the world, with the exception of the word being used. With sudden local and untracked cases popping up suddenly, the government has started to worry that the pandemic is not as easy to control as they thought.

Schools have started to close and classes and examinations are now conducted online, so I technically have no reason to leave the house. Thinking about my civic duty, I suppose it would make sense to stay at home and live my life online. I have been doing so since I entered university anyway. Time saved from no commuting has also allowed me to sleep more and spend more time on leisure as well. The only drawback on my end would be the lack of exercise. Strength exercises are still doable, but many cardio exercise sessions I have forgone.

With only two finals to look forward and a week to study for both, I find myself suddenly very free to study at a pace I am comfortable with and without any time pressure. Life for me is great, but I always remind myself that I should not really enjoy the moment, for there are people are suffering outside the bubble of my knowledge.

It is not all easy going though, my family has a lot of elderly people that are a big part of my life, and I am doing everything I can to ensure that they are not affected. I do hope to implement video calls or to wear masks in their presence without any physical contact, the latter in hopes that they will be able to understand how to use their smartphones in the first place.

Apologies for not writing for a very long time, the last few weeks building up to this one has been stressful, with some project members requiring more help or simply not reaching my expectations in the quality or quantity of their project contributions. Hope to have more time to write now, especially of some interesting books that I have been reading recently.

Cheers,
Matthew Tan
