Urban lifestyle

My family's been living in urban areas for nine generations, perhaps more if you take into account the possibility that they were living in another urban area in China (Guang Dong, to be more exact) before they moved to Singapore. We have already settled into these areas and have grown used to the benefits and disadvantages that we face in the every day life in the city. However, one of the things that we experience every day, and will probably never get used to, is the same routine every day that we experience. Sure we do try to spice it up every now and then, but in the end it's always the same, especially in the working or school periods when you are required to be at the workplace or school every single day of the working week.

Whenever I think of this, I can't help but think of that scene in Spongebob where Squidward is forced to live in the area, where all the houses are the same, where every one looks the same and where we are forced to do the same thing, over and over and over again. This is also similar to the works of Blur in the song "Ernold Same", where the person described does the same thing over and over again. I also can't help but think of the famous quote in the game entitled Far Cry 3, which I am sure many would have heard about.

In the game, Vaas, the main villain of the story, defines the word "Insanity" for us. He himself is a little crazy but he describes it as "Doing the same thing, over and over again, expecting something to change."

In the end, is that what we are all doing? Are we working every day, expecting a pay rise? Are we in school every day, hoping that something exciting would happen?

In the urban world of today, what are we all hoping to look for?

Just a little fruit for thought,
