Happy 7th Birthday!
Dear Readers,
Thank you for keeping up with my blog posts, even though they have become somewhat seldom nowadays. I was planning to post on my birthday, which is also by no coincidence the birthday of this blog, but I had exams coming along, and I could find no time to say all that I wanted to say. There was also no mood as well as I was overly stressed about the test I had to do, of which the passing rate of it was very very low. Oh Readers! If only I was born in a different time, in a different date I wonder how my life would have turned out. Perhaps I wouldn't be stressed every year around my birthday and I wouldn't have to deal with such stressful exams where I study and seem not to progress anywhere even though I felt like I have studied as much as I could have.
I always thought that I could have been born in the time of my parents. The roaring sixties did sound very fun to me; I enjoy the Beatles, Queen and Herman's Hermits. I do enjoy the dances at the time and, since I started getting into the timeless game of Chess, there were a lot of Chess legends at the time that unfortunately did not make it to today. The economy was booming at the time as well, so I really think I could be a millionaire if I spent as much effort into my work as I did now in the past. This being a time of information overload, I could choose to delve into any topic that so interests me, when in the past information was harder to come by without the use of the internet.
But alas I was born into this time, and instead of focusing on the negatives I should instead by looking at how thankful I was born into a privileged family that could afford to send me to such a good university. My birthday wish was to be happy, and I think the first step should be to be thankful first.
Cheers,
Matthew Tan
